What is Physical Therapy?

Physical Therapy (PT) helps children with physical, sensory, and cognitive deficits to meet their developmental milestones, achieve independence in gross motor skills, and move safely and efficiently throughout his/her environment.

 When should a child see a Physical Therapist?

A Physical Therapist helps children who have:

  • Difficulty with performance of age appropriate gross motor skills such as rolling, sitting, standing, crawling, walking, running, jumping
  • Gait disturbances such as toe walking, scissoring, walking with an assistive device
  • Postural impairments
  • Difficulty with environmental barrier management such as curbs, stairs, ramps, and playground equipment
  • Difficulty with coordination and balance activities such as tricycle/bicycle riding and/or are "clumsy"
  • Poor endurance
  • Pain
